The wet curtain, also known as the water curtain, has a honeycomb structure, which uses the unsaturation of the air and the evaporation and heat absorption of water to cool down.
Wet curtain devices are generally divided into two categories：
- water curtain wall plus negative pressure fan
- external independent wet curtain fan.
The water curtain wall plus negative pressure fan is mainly used in chicken houses that are easy to close and have high cooling requirements; the external independent wet curtain fan is suitable for chicken houses that do not require high cooling and are not easy to close.
At present, most chicken farms use water curtain walls and negative pressure fans. The effect of using a wet curtain to cool down is better. When using wet curtains and fans in farms, you should pay attention to these ten points:
1. The house should be as airtight as possible.
If you use a wet curtain to cool down, you can’t open the window because of the high temperature in summer. If it is not airtight, negative pressure cannot be formed in the poultry house, the cold air passing through the wet curtain will be reduced, and the hot air outside the house will come in.
2. Reasonably determine the number of fans in the chicken house and the area of the water curtain.
The number of fans in the chicken farm and the area of the water curtain should be determined according to the local climate, conditions, chicken size, and breeding density; at the same time, it should be considered that the effective air intake area will decrease after the wet curtain is used for a period of time. Therefore, when designing the area of the wet curtain It can be increased appropriately.
3. There must be a certain distance between the wet curtain and the chicken cage.
In order to prevent the cold wind from blowing directly on the chicken, it is recommended that the wet curtain and the chicken cage be separated by 2 to 3 meters. Properly leave a certain distance to ensure that the wet curtain will not be damaged when transporting cleaning tools and egg collection carts.
4. Control the opening time of the wet curtain.
Considering the needs of saving water and electricity and actually cooling down, it is generally chosen to open the wet curtain at 13-16 o’clock every day.
5. Do a good job of checking before the wet curtain is opened.
Before the wet curtain is opened, check at least three aspects:
① Check whether the fan is normal;
② Check whether the corrugated fiber paper, water collector, and water pipe are smooth and normal, and whether there is any sediment;
③ Check whether the filter at the water inlet of the submersible pump is In good condition, whether there is any water leakage in the water circulation system.
6. Do a good job of shading with wet curtains.
It is recommended to add a sunshade outside the wet curtain to prevent the sun from directly shining on the wet curtain, which will cause the water temperature to rise and affect the cooling effect.
7. Pay attention to the temperature effect of the water.
Try to use deep well water, because the colder the water flowing through the wet curtain, the better the cooling effect. When the water has been circulated several times and the water temperature rises (greater than 24°C), the water should be changed in time. Disinfectants must be added to the water used for the first use of the wet curtain to prevent the spread of diseases.
8. Reasonable use of wet curtains.
During the use of the wet pad, clean the wet pad filter once a day. Regularly check whether the wet curtain is blocked, deformed or collapsed, which will affect the cooling effect.
The reasons for the blockage include dust in the air, impurities in the water, deformation of the wet curtain paper due to poor quality, not blown dry after use, or mildew on the surface due to long-term use. After cutting off the water source every day, let the fan continue to run for more than half an hour, and then stop it after the wet curtain is dry, so as to prevent the growth of algae, thereby avoiding blocking the water pump, filter and water distribution pipe.
9. Do a good job of wet curtain protection.
When the wet curtain system is not used for a long time, a comprehensive inspection should be carried out regularly to see if the fan blades are deformed. In the cooling season, cotton blankets or films should be added inside and outside the wet curtain to prevent cold air from entering the chicken house.
For large chicken farms, when installing wet curtains, consider installing automatic roller blinds.
When the wet curtain is not used, the water in the water pipe and the pool should be drained clean, and tied with plastic cloth to prevent dust and sand from entering the pool and being brought into the device.
The water pump motor should be well preserved to prevent damage due to freezing. The water curtain paper should be covered with sunshade net (cloth) to prevent the service life from being shortened due to oxidation.
10. Pay attention to the installation of the wet curtain water pipe.
The water outlet of the horizontal sewer pipe of the wet curtain should be installed upwards to prevent blockage and uneven water flow. The wet curtain sewer pipe should not be installed completely closed to facilitate cleaning and disassembly.
